Innovations

Lead role for contributing to the development of a new post qualifying education and training framework for social work in NI (2005-07), and development of new programmes in partnership with all major employers of social workers.

MSc Professional Development in Social Work: Chair of Course Committee (2005-07) for Validation of innovative programme and Chair of Course Committee for Revalidation (2012) (40 modules).

Development of new Post-Qualifying, Post Graduate provision in partnership with Health and Social Care Trusts, Probation Board NI, NI Guardian ad Litem Agency, Education Welfare Service, Youth Justice Agency and voluntary organizations. This has included creating the MSc Professional Development in Social Work which provides pathways for professionals working in family and child care, mental health, disability, criminal justice and social work with older people. At September 2008 this includes 30 modules with a range of further modules in development. The types of modules include accreditation of employer-led modules, professional Social Work accreditation of modules provided by the School of Nursing, accreditation of facility for academic assessment of professional Individual Assessment Route, and linking to post qualifying programmes provided by Social Work (MSc Specialist Cognitive Therapy), other parts of the School of Sociology and Applied Social Studies (Restorative Practice) and School of Policy Studies (Pg Dip Health and Social Services Management).

Introduction of new procedures of the HPSS Office of Research Ethics (NI) and new procedures of the University and of Health and Social Care Trusts to the Master's programme: Application of Research Methods in Social Work.

Development of evidence requirements for dissemination seminars by students on Master's programme: Application of Research Methods in Social Work.

Adaptation of curriculum on MSc Advanced Social Work to take account of service developments in Health and Social Care including aspects such as governance, organization, quality systems.

Member of Steering Group for the development of Learning Materials on Governance in Social Work with the Clinical and Social Care Governance Support Team, Belfast and the Social Care Institute for Excellence, London (2005-07) which is now being used for the practice development and organization development throughout NI Health and Social Care Trusts.
