Shots of Justice” English Medium Instruction in Junior Secondary Schools in Sri Lanka: Policy to Practice
Project Description :
An ethnographic study of classroom discourse. The aim of the study is to investigate whether the process of policy implementation at the classroom level is likely to facilitate and fulfill the language in education policy goals specified in the new educational reforms implemented in 2002. Though there has been wide criticism of the policy and the lack of human resources to implement it, no in-depth study has been conducted to investigate its implementation in the classrooms. Five schools from the country’s most populous western province were selected as cases and research ‘sites’ and teacher interviews, field notes and audio-taped transcripts were the main data sources.
