Research Projects Available for Postgraduate (PHD) Study

UNIT OF ASSESSMENT 40 - Social Work and Social Policy and Administration

Project Outline

Community Attitudes to Mental Illness

Applications should be no more than 2000 words.

The policy of Care in the Community is now firmly established: individuals with severe mental illness who previously would have been cared for on long-stay hospital wards now routinely live in community settings. However, the success of such a policy is dependent on a positive and welcoming response from the communities in which former psychiatric patients reside. Current government policy has recognised the importance of promoting mental health and mental health education. The proposed project aims to investigate contemporary attitudes towards mental illness by community survey.
