Project Outline
Diversity and social inclusion
Expressions of interest should be no more than 2,000 words, provide evidence of their knowledge and interest in the area and how their experience to date would benefit the project
Background: As NI society becomes increasingly diverse, concerns have arisen about how best to accommodate the needs of ethnic minority children within the education system. In addition increasing attention is being directed towards intercultural education, as signified by the presence of the key concept of Diversity and Inclusion in the recent proposals for Curriculum and Assessment at Key Stage 3 (CEA, 2003).
Aims and objectives: This project will examine the implementation of the CEA proposals, due to begin in September 2005 from the perspective of teachers, as well as from the perspectives of parents and children from selected ethnic minorities.
The proposed topic will allow conclusions relating to advancements in theory and practice in education as well as policy implications in the educational context of Northern Ireland in particular. Research results could be published in different forms.
